In autumn the sand gleams white
on the far shore

the sunset reddens
the mountain ranges

hidden fish
break water

returning birds
battle the winds

the pounding of laundry
echoes from each house

the sound of the woodcutter's axe
is everywhere

I cannot stop the ministry
of Lady Frost

her white blanket tells me how far I am
from the palaces of younger days.
